Hetch Hetchy Water and Power reports as follows:

This March has been on track to be the second largest March on record, possibly even exceeding the Miracle March of 1991. That month we had 14.8 inches measured at Hetch Hetchy. This month we have 10.53 to date, with 5 inches forecasted over the next 2 days. This means that our water supply forecast has improved. What that means for you is some changes to our anticipated releases this spring. We are still waiting on our monthly snow survey to make official forecasts, but at this point we can say the following:

1)      Remainder of March

a.       No KPH spill

b.      Minimal HPH generation

c.       Hetchy releases up to 3000 cfs during this storm, reducing afterwards

d.      No Eleanor Spill

e.      No Cherry releases beyond minimums

2)      April:

a.       KPH will be at full available generation – spilling 500-600 cfs.

b.      Hetchy will be releasing at least 130 cfs.

c.       Cherry / Eleanor will be releasing minimums – 10 cfs. Eleanor may spill during storms, but less than usual.

d.      HPH will likely be out of service

e.      PH or Valve maintenance may reduce or increase flows. We will update as needed.

f.        200 cfs spill at Moccasin

3)      May

a.       KPH will be at full available generation – spilling 500-600 cfs.

b.      Hetchy will be releasing at least 130 cfs. Some reservoir management will result in increased flows – up to 3000 cfs or higher

c.       Cherry / Eleanor will be releasing minimums – 10 cfs. Eleanor may spill during storms, but less than usual.

d.      HPH may have limited generation

e.      PH or Valve maintenance may reduce or increase flows. We will update as needed.

f.        200 cfs spill at Moccasin

4)      June through August

a.       Spill and KPH generation if runoff is late.

b.      Usual HPH recreational releases through August 1 (950 cfs)

c.       HPH 1 unit operation in August 1 through Labor Day (550 cfs).

d.      No spill at Moccasin

We will have updates and firmer estimates of HPH operations and Hetchy spill in a couple weeks, once the snow surveys indicate our expected inflows.

Any significant changes to the schedule will be posted on the bulletin board.
