PG&E has communicated the Pit 5 recreational flows are still scheduled for release on September 12th & 13th and reports the following:

“The Madesi boater put-in below Pit 5 Diversion Dam and the James B. Black boater take- out will still be accessible for this weekend’s Pit 5 whitewater flow, scheduled for September 12 and 13. However, Madesi Campground and the bathrooms at both the put-in and take-out will be closed.”

Also be aware there are no overnight campground options nearby for Pit 5 since in addition to the PG&E closures all USFS National Forests in California are temporarily closed due to fire conditions on the ground which includes the nearby USFS campground at Pit 4.

Paddlers who venture out to Pit 5 need to be fire aware, plan ahead, pack it in pack it out, make plans for proper disposal of human waste and remember to social distance! NO CAMPFIRES!!! And as a friendly reminder check and reign in any chains hanging from your trailers that may drag and cause sparks!
