The B120 report for February predicts that the "Unimpaired Runoff" above Folsom Reservoir will be 3.925 MAF (million acre-feet). This translates to a Wet water year type for the rest of February through early March.

What this means is that we will get Saturday and Sunday releases until the end of February. Then, from March 1 through March 10, there will be scheduled releases every day.

The Wet designation will persist at least until the next B120 bulletin comes out, around March 8, taking effect March 11. Check back then for an update.

The scheduled release page gives more details, in particular minimum releases in cfs and release times.

The B120 report for March predicts that the "Unimpaired Runoff" above Folsom Reservoir will be 4.235 MAF (million acre-feet), which is an increase of about 8% over last month. This translates to a Wet water year type for the rest of March through early April.

What this means is that there will continue to be scheduled releases every day.

The Wet designation will persist at least until the next B120 bulletin comes out, around April 8, taking effect April 11. Check back then for an update.

The scheduled release page gives more details, in particular minimum releases in cfs and release times.

It's been so wet, and continues to be so wet, and there's so much snow in the mountains that the April and May designations are certain to be Wet also.  This means we'll have scheduled releases every day from now through Labor Day.  The scheduled release page reflects this scenario.

Do you all expect the planned release flows to be the actual river flows in May and June (for the stretch downstream of Chili Bar)? Or is it likely that upstream water releases (Slab Creek) will exceed the planned daily releases from Chili Bar?

To put it another way, will we get weeks on end of 2,000+ cfs flows downstream of Chili Bar during peak melt this spring?

Short answer: yes, very likely actual releases will be significantly higher than scheduled.

In more detail: in real life, actual releases are always higher than scheduled, assuming SMUD can manage it.  During winter and spring they're arbitrarily higher, because SMUD has to make room in the upstream reservoirs to hold future rain/snowmelt, also beyond a certain point there's so much water coming down they can't limit it even if they wanted to.  During peak snowmelt this year it could easily get up to 10,000 cfs, perhaps more.  See the discussion here which applies to scheduled releases generally, not just Chili Bar.

The B120 report for April predicts that the "Unimpaired Runoff" above Folsom Reservoir will be 4.895 MAF (million acre-feet), which is an increase of about 15% over last month.  This translates to a Wet water year type.

Officially, the Wet designation will persist until the next B120 bulletin comes out, around May 8, taking effect May 11.  However, as previously noted, the May forecast is certain to be Wet too, which effectively gives us a Wet designation for the rest of the year.

What this means is that there will continue to be scheduled releases every day through Labor Day.

The scheduled release page gives more details, in particular minimum releases in cfs and release times.

The B120 report for May predicts that the "Unimpaired Runoff" above Folsom Reservoir will be 4.640 MAF (million acre-feet), which is about 5% lower than last month.  This still (easily) translates to a Wet water year type.

This officially gives us a Wet designation for this water year.

What this means is that there will continue to be scheduled releases every day through Labor Day, then four scheduled release days a week through the end of October, and then scheduled releases every weekend through early February.

The scheduled release page gives more details, in particular (minimum) releases in cfs and release times.
