Payette, Idaho

Chris Shackleton following Russ Perkins through Staircase Rapid on the "Staircase" run.  Flow was about 5,000 cfs.  This rapid is long and complex, and it would be easy to get lost if you weren't paying attention.  And no, Russ isn't lost - he's still in his kayak, under control, just buried in water.  Photo: Tracy Cunningham
