Water Management and Access Issues:

1.  Above-average flows are anticipated in the Tuolumne River System during the 2023 runoff season.  Hetch Hetchy Water and Power predict that spill will end, and scheduled releases will start, only sometime in August.  Until then, they predict high flows on the Tuolumne.  Snowmelt could end earlier though, so for completeness the schedule from June 1 onward is shown above.  Just be aware that actual flows may be far higher than scheduled until sometime in July or August.  If forecasted inflows or operational concerns change, information will be posted to the Bulletin Board thread.

2.  Times reflect releases below Holm Powerhouse.  Flow estimates are at the confluence of the Tuolumne River and Cherry Creek.  It is assumed that it takes approximately two hours for water to travel from the confluence to Meral’s Pool (a.k.a. Lumsden Boat Launch).

3.  Flow at the confluence is a combination of power house releases and other streamflow releases.  Unless otherwise noted, expect most of the flow to come down Cherry Creek, i.e. from Holm Powerhouse.

4.  This is a high water year, so expect the other streamflows releases referred to in the previous item to be significant, particularly during June and early July.  Before heading out, be sure to check the relevant Dreamflows flow report and Bulletin Board thread to determine current and expected release trends.

5.  Management of the reservoirs during the snowmelt runoff period will result in flow in the Tuolumne River to be in excess of the posted schedule.  The recreational release accommodation schedule will begin once inflows to the reservoirs have receded.  Information during the runoff period will be posted to the Bulletin Board thread.

6.  Flows outside of the schedule outlined above are expected, and are at HHWP’s operational discretion.

7.  Users should be aware that sudden changes in powerhouse or dam releases may occur at any time due to emergency mechanical or electrical conditions.  Scheduled or unplanned rapid changes in water levels and flow rates can create hazards, and users are urged to use caution and to wear all appropriate personal protective equipment.
