|

| In the settlement negotiations that preceded the license order for the FERC Mokelumne River Project #137, Agencies and NGO’s were satisfied with the recreational flows required for the Electra reach. This was mainly due to the flows that PG&E already released regularly during the day to generate energy for the power grid operated by the California Independent System Operator (Cal ISO). Boaters could take advantage of this dependable flow without the need to require recreational flows. However, over the past few years dependable boatable flows on the Mokelumne Electra run have all but disappeared.
Unforeseen at the time to the settlement participants, Cal ISO has now turned to solar and wind generation to fill their power grid pushing the normally reliable daytime hydropower flows to the shoulders – early evening into the night and early morning. As a result the Mokelulmne Ecological Resource Committee (ERC) which includes American Whitewater, Foothill Conservancy, BLM and CDFW along with the USFS started advocating to PG&E for a regular schedule of Electra recreational flows.
We are now happy to announce that PG&E agreed to 2016 summer flows every 1st and 3rd weekend of the month through Labor Day weekend. Big shout out to the PG&E Moke crew for working diligently with the ERC to make this happen!
