SMUD writes as follows:

The gage below Slab Creek Dam was taken offline while the SF American River immediately below the dam was dewatered to facilitate construction activities at the new South Fork Powerhouse, including the habitat improvements to the channel itself. Because of the changes to the geometry of the channel from these activities, the rating is slightly off. As such, the discharge that Dreamflows is reporting is a bit high; flows are currently just below 10K cfs.

SMUD is working to develop the rating to improve the accuracy of these flows and then reestablish the station on SMUD’s website.


Based on the quoted 10K flow and the time of the communication, it looks like the So. American - Below Slab Creek Dam gauge (as reported by Dreamflows) is reading about 20% too high.
