|
|
| Located within Plumas National Forest the SF Feather is currently in the heart of the North Complex Fire (Bear Fire) and is subject to the USFS Region 5 temporary closure orders. Needless to say, it will be sometime before anyone can fully assess the impact of the wildfire to the watershed.

American Whitewater has contacted South Feather Water and Power Agency to get a report on any impact/change to the Fall reservoir draw down that usually provides the opportunities for paddling every September and October. As of today, since SFWPA has reservoir level targets to meet, they have made no changes to the scheduled draw down dates. The Fall reservoir draw down will proceed as planned despite the Plumas National Forest closure. So there will likely be no opportunities for boating on the SF Feather this year.
As always should conditions on the ground change AW will share any new information forthcoming.

| South Feather Water and Power reports today as follows:
Quote: | Good morning Gentlemen,
After discussing the situation and logistics around the Bear Fire / North Complex Fire with SFWP management, we have decided to cancel the scheduled Little Grass Valley Reservoir (LGVR) draw down coming up at the end of this week. This is due to safety concerns to SFWP personnel accessing the area to increase flow, national forests being closed in the State of California, and the unknown condition of the SFWP assets and the river channel in that area. We whole heartedly apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
That being said we still need to draw down LGVR later this fall to have capacity available for winter inflows, but with the unknown condition of PG&E transmission lines in the area we do not know what those release will look like. I will keep you informed as the situation develops with asset conditions and regulatory agencies that will determine what those releases will look like. |
