| Sacramento Utility Municipal District (SMUD) has confirmed scheduled recreational flows for March 25th and 26th will proceed as planned. SMUD also relayed that the log boom will be reattached today, and they will calibrate the gate at the top of Slab Creek Dam Road to initially open daily on a timer from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm. (Keep in mind American Whitewater conversations with USFS are ongoing to ensure these gates can remain open during opportunistic flows.)
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has informed American Whitewater that the gates at the take-out on Rock Creek will be open from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. If your vehicle is still in the lot after 6:00 pm BLM is prepared to follow search and rescue protocol so, please be aware of your time on the river.
As a reminder, SMUD will target on Saturday 1400 cfs flows from 10 am to 1 pm and 850 cfs from 1:30 am to 4 pm. On Sunday the targeted flows will be 1500 cfs from 10 am to 1 pm and 950 cfs from 1:30 to 4 pm. The one caveat is that this will be the first time SMUD will use the Slab Creek Powerhouse to provide these scheduled flows and all targeted flows are estimations. Plan accordingly!
Finally, be on the lookout, SMUD will be monitoring Slab Creek Whitewater recreation during scheduled flow releases. This will include an observer at put-in and take-out as well as post-trip phone interviews. Please do not be shy if you are approached at either site because all information collected will be used to frame the Slab Creek Whitewater Recreation Plan which is due in 2024.
