Feb. 15th At 8:00 A.M. In Gasquet Sunrise: 7:11 A.M. Sunset: 5:47 P.M. The Air Temperature Was 45 Degrees! The Water Temperature At The “N.F. Confluence” Was 41 Degrees! And The Smith River Was At (10 Feet 3 Inches) At 8:00 A.M. Today, On The Gauge (On The Big Pipes) At The Water Treatment Plant, At The Confluence Of The North And Middle Fork Of The River! (The River Is At A Fair Level For Rafting & Kayaking Today!) (See The Dreamflows Daily Flows Graph!) The N.F. Of The Smith River Dropped (4 Inches) From 8:00 A.M. Yesterday To 8:00 A.M. Today! And There Was No Precipitation At All! From 8:00 A.M. Yesterday To 8:00 A.M. Today! There Is A 0% Chance Of Precipitation Expected Today! And A 0% Chance Of Precipitation Expected For Tonight! (According To The NOAA Report) At http://www.nws.noaa.gov/ So With No Rain Expected Today! And No Rain Expected Tonight! The River May Drop Just A Little Bit Today, And Some More Tonight! Depending On The Amount Of Snow Melt, We Get In The Mountains! And The River Will Be At A Fair Level For Boating Again Tomorrow! THE ROAD TO THE N. F. IS STILL CLOSED DUE TO SNOW! Yesterday A Friend Of Mine And I Went Up Gasquet Mountain, In His 1998 V8 Magnum Dodge Ram Dakota Sport 4 X4 And We Finally Punched The Road Through To High Divide! And Then We Continued On Towards The Put In On The North Fork Of The Smith. And We Were Only Able To Get About A ½ Mile Farther Than I Did On Tuesday The 12th! Making The First Tracks In Over A Foot Of Snow That Was So Icy That His Tires Were Not Cutting Through It To The Dirt, And We Had 3 To 4 Inches Of Snow (Ice) Under His Tires, And We Were Even Getting Stuck Going Down Hill, Several Times! We Stopped To Cut A Tree That Was Lying Across The Road With His Chain Saw. And We Were Able To Walk On Top Of Over A Foot Of Snow With Out Sinking Down In It Enough To Hardly Even Leave Foot Prints In The Snow! (Ice) We Tried As Hard As We Could! And We Drove As Far As We Could Go! And Got Stuck And Unstuck Over Two Dozen Times! And We Were Not Even Out Of The Grove Of Big Trees. And Finally We Could Go Absolutely No Farther! And We Were Only About ¾ Of The Way To The North Fork Put In, On The Smith River! (Shuttle Provider) Bearfoot Brad

Urgent Update! Feb. 23rd At 4:45 A.M. In Gasquet! I Got A New Motor In My Truck Yesterday! And Although I Have To Be Easy On My Truck For The First Thousand Miles, And I Can Not Open The Road With It Yet, I Decided To Drive Up And See If Any One Else Had opened The Road To The North Fork Put In At Major Moors.I Meet The County Road Grader Just Coming Back From Major Moors And I Drove In And Back Out And The Road Is Open Now! And It Is Do Able In A Two Wheel Drive Car! I Talked To The Guy In The Road Grader And He Said The Phone Has Been Ringing Off The Hook With Kayakers Wondering If The Road Was Open Yet! So I Want To Give A Special Note Of Thanks To All You Folks Out There In The Kayaking Community Who Have Been Calling In! Your Efforts And Time Were Very Worth While Thanks! Bearfoot Brad
