Permitted Outfitter Guides,
The Klamath National Forest issued an Emergency Closure of River Accesses
in the immediate area of the Siskiyou Complex fires on July 17th.
The order reads as follows:
Order No. 08-05-664
Klamath National Forest
Emergency Closure
Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(a), and to ensure public safety during
suppression activities in the Siskiyou Fire Complex, the following acts are
prohibited within the Klamath national Forest. This order is effective from
July 17, 2008 until the fires in the Siskiyou Fire Complex are declared out
or the area is considered safe for public entry. All sites are shown on
Exhibit A.
Launching a watercraft at the following site:
Coon Creek River Access, located in SE 1/4 of Section 11, T. 14 N., R 6
E, Humboldt Meridian (HM). The access area affected by this order
extends west to the terminus of the Dillon Creek Trail in Section 22 of
T. 14 N., R 5 E., HM.

Launching or removing watercraft at the following sites:
Dillon Creek River Access, located in SE 1/4 of Section 28, T. 14 N.,R 6
E., HM.
The River Access Known as Blue Nose River Access (unsigned) located in
SE 1/4 of Section 33, T. 14 N., R 6 E., HM.
Persido Bar River Access, located in SW 1/4 of Section 5, T. 13 N., R 6
E., HM.

Removing a watercraft at the following site:
Ti Bar River Access, located in NW 1/4 of Section 17, T 13 N., R 6 E,
HM.

Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this
order.
1. Persons with a permit from the Forest Service specifically
authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.
2. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized
rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
These prohibitions are in addition to the general proibitions in 36 CFR
Part 261, Subpart A.

A violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than
$5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment
for not more than six months, or both.

Today it is very smoky in the Klamath River canyon. The smoke comes and
goes with the changing winds. Lately an inversion has set up overnight
then gets scoured out with the afternoon breezes. Now visibility is down
to less than a quarter mile.
I would suggest you call the office at 530 493-2243 to get an update on
local smoke conditions here in Happy Camp if you plan on coming to raft
within the next couple of weeks.
