The good news is that so far 2011 is being treated as an Above Normal water year for the American River drainage in CA. The B120 report for February predicts that the "Unimpaired Runoff" above Folsom Reservoir will be 3.19 MAF (mega acre-feet). This is very comfortably within the Above Normal range.

The result is that we currently have boatable releases below Chili Bar every day of the week, and great releases on weekends. See the Chili Bar schedule for details, though be sure to read the notes at the bottom - the situation changes month-to-month.

The good news is that 2011 is still being treated as an Above Normal water year for the American River drainage. The B120 report for March predicts that the "Unimpaired Runoff" above Folsom Reservoir will be 3.15 MAF (mega acre-feet). This is still very comfortably within the Above Normal range.

The result is that we continue to have boatable releases below Chili Bar every day of the week, and great releases on weekends. See the Chili Bar schedule for details, though be sure to read the notes at the bottom - the situation changes month-to-month.

Correction: Wendy writes that the "M" in MAF stands for "million", rather than "mega". Thanks, Wendy. Those who know me well must be ROFL right now.

DWR's B120 report for April came out today. It now predicts that the "Unimpaired Runoff" above Folsom Reservoir will be 4.395 MAF (million acre-feet). This is comfortably into the Wet range (which is the top range). It takes three days for the new report to take effect.

This means that from Monday on, until the next B120 report comes out, we get higher guaranteed releases during the week (1500 cfs instead of 1300 cfs) and longer guaranteed releases on the weekend (6 hours instead of 4). See the Chili Bar schedule for details, though be sure to read the notes at the bottom - the situation changes month-to-month.

Of course right now the official schedule makes little difference, since actual releases are typically way higher than the minimums shown on the schedule. The B120 report for May is the critical one, since that determines the releases for the rest of the summer. So be sure to check back here early May.

Jubilation! DWR's B120 report for May came out yesterday. It predicts that the "Unimpaired Runoff" above Folsom Reservoir will be 4.400 MAF (million acre-feet). This is still within the Wet range (which is the top range). This means that the current schedule is expected to continue until February 2012. I've updated the Chili Bar schedule to match.
