|The Mighty Truckee is nearly walkable in the section between Tahoe City and Truckee at West River Street . With Tahoe being within 1 foot of the natural rim, the flow right now is as low as it's been in years and there are rocks everywhere and river-bottom showing that is usually underwater (even in the "low" flow times of the year). |
Over here at Truckee River Taxi we are still getting calls from people who are trying to launch kayaks and rafts. Our advice is to walk/drive the section you are interested in before you launch to get a realistic view of just how low the conditions are right now and be prepared to spend some time on the river (pack extra drinking water, etc). And remember, there's a big lake next door if you just want to get that kayak out on some water. We are happy to scoop you up mid-river, but be aware that cell phone service is sketchy between Tahoe City and Alpine Meadows. Happy floating!
