The flow study dates and flows for Canyon Creek from French Lake down to Bowman Lake is here: http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/Article_view_articleid_30140_display_full

Dave Steindorf of American Whitewater asks "Please emphasize the importance of getting people to fill out the online survey. These flows are our chance to document what is boatable and what is not".

He also notes that "Getting in to French Lake for the upper end of Canyon Creek will still require a 2 mile hike in from the gate. The area is banned to vehicles by the Forest Service".

A few of us ran this section a few years ago, and you can read about it here: http://www.dreamflows.com/guides/CanyonCreek/UpperCanyon/index.php It's hard to know exactly what flow we had, since they just opened a valve and let the lake drain (and flow dropped a bit each day as a result), but we thought it was about 80 cfs. The hike in was a bit of a grunt but not horrendous - as I recall it was mostly flat. It also seemed less than 2 miles, though that could have been optimism, or perhaps due to the fact some of us "cheated " and paddled the last bit on French Lake.

Those of you who "belong" on this run should know it - this is not a Class IV disney ride, many of the rapids have real teeth. Because we were wimps we walked a lot, but I expect the studs out there will fire most of it up and have a great time, especially at the higher flows. I hope so!
