Dec. 16th At 8:00 A.M. In Gasquet
Sunrise: 7:37 A.M. Sunset: 4:44 P. M.
The Air Temperature Was 32 Degrees!
The Water Temperature At The N.F. Confluence Was 37 Degrees!
And The Smith River Was At (7 Feet 4 Inches) At 8:00 A.M. Today,
On The Gauge (On The Big Pipes) At The Water Treatment Plant,
At The Confluence Of The North And Middle Fork Of The River!
(There Is 1 ½ Inches Of Snow At The North & Middle Fork Confluence!)
(The River Is At A Low Level For Rafting & Kayaking Today!)
(See The Dreamflows Daily Flows Graph Below!)
http://www.dreamflows.com/graphs/day.162.php
The N.F. Of The Smith River Dropped 2 Inches!
From 8:00 A.M. Yesterday To 8:00 A.M. Today!
And There Was .18 Of An Inch Of Precipitation!
From 8:00 A.M. Yesterday To 8:00 A.M. Today!
There Is A 0% Chance Of Precipitation Expected Today!
There Is A 0% Chance Of Precipitation Expected Tonight!
(According To The N.O.A.A. Report At 8:00 A.M.) At http://www.nws.noaa.gov/
So With No Rain Expected Today And No Rain Expected Tonight!
The River Level Will Drop Some Today! And Will Drop More Tonight!
(And The River Will Still Be At A Low Level For Boating Again Tomorrow!)
THE ROAD TO THE NORTH FORK! IS OPEN KIND OF!
If You Go Up Low Divide Or Rowdy Creek In A 4 Wheel Drive Truck!
With Good Snow Tires! (And It would Be A Good Idea To Have Chains!)
I Drove Up And Around Low Divide To The North Fork Put In,
Yesterday And Passed A Grader Clearing The Low Divide Road.
Then They Were Going To Go Out Down Rowdy Creek Road.
I Drove From Low Divide To The North Fork Put In Through Snow.
I Encountered Snow Drifts Up To 14 Inches Deep And I Got The Road Open.
Then I Came Back Out And Down Gasquet Mountain Road To Try
To Open What I Could Not Go Up Previously In The Morning!
By Coming In And Down It From The Backside Of The Mountain!
I Encountered Snow Drifts Up To 21 Inches Deep & Then I Got Stuck.
And I Burned Out My Clutch Trying To Get Myself Unstuck!
And I Had To Walk Out 4 - 5 Miles Leaving My Truck Behind!
And The Snow Is To Deep To Be Able To Tow It Out Right Now!
It Is Stuck In The Middle Of The Road With No Way Around It!

Then We Drove Out And They Kayaked From Patrick’s Creek Through The Gorge To The South Fork,
With Single Bladed Paddles! And Had A Great Time Doing It!
So To Drive Beyond Low Divide Or Rowdy Creek, Or Up Gasquet Mountain
You Really Need A 4 Wheel Drive Truck! With Good Snow Tires!
And You Need To Carry Snow Chains, And Maybe Even Carry A Shovel With You Today!
I Drove Up Monday The 15th To Try To Keep The N.F. Road Open!
And My Clutch Went Out And I Had To Walk Out 6 Miles To Hwy 199.
The Snow At That Time Was Knee Deep With Drifts Up To 27 Inches!
Tuesday Afternoon My Good Friend Dave Potticary Pulled My Broke Down Toyota
Truck Up And Over The Top Of The Last Steep Hill And Back Down To Gasquet
With His Old 4 Wheel Drive Truck, With Snow Chains On!
And We Made Two Fresh Sets Of Tracks Up, And Back Down!
What No One Was Even Able To Drive Up Just The Day Before!
Wednesday He Came Back With A Car Trailer And Towed It Away!
Now I Have No Way Of Keeping The Road Open Until It’s Fixed!

THE ROAD TO THE NORTH FORK OF THE SMITH IS OPEN!
Yesterday Afternoon I Rode My 650 Kawasaki Motorcycle Up Gasquet Mountain,
In The Pouring Down Rain, To See If The Snow Had Melted Enough To Finally Be Able To Get To The Put In,
On The North Fork Of The Smith River, And I Made It There Without Any Trouble At All!
There Were Patches Of Snow Here And There! But Nothing To Bad For Any Two Wheel Drive Vehicle To Be Able To Easily Handle!
My Truck’s In The Shop And I Have No Way To Keep The Road Open Now!
I Am Putting In A Super Heavy Duty Clutch And Automatic Positive Locking Differentials!
(So That I Will Have A Real True Four Wheel Drive Truck!)
And I Am Going To Put A Good Winch, On The Front Of My Truck, As Well!
When My Truck Is Fixed It Will Be More Capable Of Keeping The Road Open!
