Hetch Hetchy Water and Power reports as follows:

"We just had an outage in one unit at Holm Powerhouse.  This will result in lower releases from Holm until the situation is resolved.  We have 550 cfs scheduled to be released from Holm until 7PM tonight.  With an additional 150 cfs from Hetch Hetchy and 50-200 cfs spilling at Kirkwood powerhouse, I anticipate 750-900 cfs at the Cherry / Tuolumne confluence from now until 7PM.

We expect to get the unit back today.  I will send an email when we do."

Hetch Hetchy Water and Power reported last night as follows:

"The outage at Holm powerhouse was not resolved today.  Tomorrow's Holm generation pattern will follow today's, with 550 CFS from 7 AM through 4 PM.  An additional 150 - 200 cfs will come in on the hetchy side, and 40 cfs on the cherry/Eleanor side.  There will be no spill at kirkwood tomorrow.  We are working to resolve the issue, and will let you know once it is."

But note the message was sent last night, so in the message "tomorrow" means today/Thursday, etc.

Hetch Hetchy Water and Power reports today as follows:

"Today we worked on Holm all day, with no success.  One unit remains out of service, limiting out generation to 550 cfs.  Tomorrow's Holm generation pattern will follow today's, with 550 CFS from 5 AM through 3 PM, and 200-400 cfs the other hours.  An additional 150 - 200 cfs will come in on the hetchy side, and 40 cfs on the cherry/Eleanor side.  There will be no spill at kirkwood tomorrow.  We are working to resolve the issue, and will let you know once it is."

Hetch Hetchy Water and Power reports today as follows:

"We are continuing to address the issue, but we will not have the unit back in service until at least July 12th. We will be providing ~550 cfs below Holm Powerhouse between 0600-1200 hours. This will be in addition to flows that are on the mainstem which are currently near 200 cfs as well as what is below Cherry and Eleanor which is near 45 cfs.

We do not have return to service date and it very well could be July 12, but we are not certain at this point in time. When we have an estimate of when it will return to service, we will provide that information."

Hetch Hetchy Water and Power reports as follows:

"A possible part to fix the problem at Holm has been procured, and our mechanics are at Holm Powerhouse seeing if it will work.  We are necessarily cautious about the unit being back up and running.  However, there is some chance that it will work, and rafting flows will commence tomorrow morning.  Unfortunately, we will not know until we fire up the unit tomorrow morning at 7AM.  Once we know the good or bad news tomorrow morning, we will send a confirmation email.  Fingers crossed."

Hetch Hetchy Water and Power reports this morning as follows:

"Thank you for your patience - we have the unit back up and running as of last night.  There will be the normal recreational release flow this morning from 7 to 11 below Holm Powerhouse.

This event is a reminder to be aware of flow conditions on the river.  Mechanical and electrical failures can result in the loss of a generating unit(s) and a reduction in flows.  We will do our best to make notifications, however for those who have already shoved off your observations of conditions on the river is your notification.  Given the short 4 hours of the recreational flow releases, if you notice an unexpected reduction in flow - a good assumption is that we have lost a unit(s) and it will not be back for that given day and plan appropriately for that day's travel.  The fact of the matter is that the response time to fix an issue likely exceeds the recreational release timeframe.

And another reminder that tomorrow is a maintenance day - flows will range from 400 cfs at 6 am up to 550 cfs at 11 am below Holm, so there will be water to float on the river."

Hetch Hetchy Water and Power reports this morning as follows:
***********************************************************************
On July 19 following the recreational release we need to take one of the HPH units down for a minor repair. This repair cannot wait until the next scheduled maintenance day. The maintenance group informs me that the fix will likely be relatively fast, however they have asked for contingency time and requested the unit be scheduled to be down for 24 hours if unforeseen circumstances come to light. This means we cannot 100% guarantee, the normal recreational release on Wednesday July 20. We will schedule to operate 1 full unit operation for a 6 hour period as we have done in the past for unexpected outages. Releases will begin at 6 am through 12 pm.

It is likely that the unit will be back on Tuesday afternoon – if that is the case, the normal release will occur from 7-11. When we have more information on Tuesday, we will update the email list.

Thank you for your understanding on this matter – this is a repair that we all want to happen.

Adam

Hetch Hetchy Water and Power reports as follows:

"Spring runoff is over, and we are well into our summer schedule. From now until Labor Day, anticipate the Holm generation schedule we have seen the last week –

·         950 cfs 7AM through 11AM, 7 days a week.

·         200-600 cfs all other hours. For the most part, Holm PH is following our power obligations, which are fairly consistent during the week. Thus, all weekdays should be fairly similar. Saturday is different than weekdays, and Sunday is different than Saturday, so I would look at last Saturday and Sunday to predict next Saturday and Sunday.

No Water Wednesdays July 27, August 10 and August 24.

Hetchy, Cherry and Eleanor flows are all expected to remain steady for the rest of the summer.

We will send special notices for unexpected outages and other changes to the release schedules.

Happy boating this summer!"

****************************************************************
Hello River Folks:

Tomorrow – Thursday 8/11/2016, flow below Holm Powerhouse may vary during the recreational release -- this is due to scheduled testing at Kirkwood Powerhouse. However, flows below HPH should remain above 650 cfs and as flow is reduced below HPH, flows will increase below KPH (Early Intake) – as a result the total flow at Lumsden will remain above 1100 cfs. Be aware that flows throughout the recreational release period may vary to higher levels above the rates which have occurred over the past week of recreational flow releases.

Friday it will be back to recreational releases as usual.

Have fun, Adam

Hetch Hetchy Water and Power reports as follows:

"We are nearing the end of the season for releases at Holm Powerhouse.  We expect to have our final day of recreational releases on Labor Day, Monday, September 5.  Starting September 6, generation at Holm Powerhouse will be limited to meeting our power load.  We expect flows from Holm to peak at around 400-500 cfs, likely in the early afternoon, for most of September.

We hope the rafting season went well for everyone.  Stay posted for updates next spring!"
