Hetch Hetchy Water and Power reports today as follows:

Good morning,

As a friendly reminder, tomorrow June 30 is a No Water Wednesday during which no 7am-11am recreational releases will be produced at Holm Powerhouse.  Regular recreational pulse flows will resume as usual on Thursday, July 1.

Additionally, in response to the ensuing heat wave and corresponding power demands, Holm Powerhouse will be scheduled at maximum generation from 3pm-10pm beginning Thursday, July 1.  This pattern is expected to persist at least through next Tuesday, July 6th.  We will provide notifications if and when changes are anticipated to this schedule.

Have a safe and happy holiday weekend.

We had a malfunction in one of our units at Holm Powerhouse at 0930 today, August 9th.  Total releases from HHWP facilities dropped from 1100 cfs to 650 cfs due to this malfunction.

We are working on a fix, but at this time the issue and return to service timeline are unknown.  If the unit is not fixed by tomorrow, we will run the lower rate (650 cfs) for 6 hours (6 to noon) until it is resolved.  Afternoon pulses will be similarly reduced.

They will send an update when they have news on timeline for return to normal operations.

The issue with Holm Powerhouse has been diagnosed.  We are acquiring parts and scheduling crews to do the repairs.  At this point the repairs will not be completed before Tuesday, August 17, and possibly later.  We will have a firmer schedule next week.

From now until Tuesday, August 17, maximum generation at Holm Powerhouse is 550 cfs.  Total system flows will be around 650 cfs.  We will be releasing higher flows from HPH from 6 AM to noon.

Note that during the week there will also be evening peaks in releases, as we have seen through most of the summer.  There will not be evening peaks in the weekends.

All,

Parts to repair HPH are difficult to obtain.  We expect to have them on hand by August 23, with a fix currently scheduled for August 25.

From now through Wednesday, August 25, maximum generation at Holm Powerhouse is 550 cfs.  Total system flows will be around 650 cfs.  We will be releasing higher flows from HPH from 6 AM to noon.  Additional elevated generation will be occurring in the weekday evenings, from 4PM through 9PM.  Evening flow rates may vary.

There has been a request to move the 6 hour morning Holm Powerhouse generation pulse to one hour earlier.  Starting this Friday, we will be generating the 550 cfs pulse at HPH from 5 AM to 11 AM, instead of the previous 6 AM to noon.  This change will persist while we are at 1 unit operation.  When we return to 2 unit operation, we will use the normal release period.

Evening pulses will be during the usual times.

We are working with contractors to fix the issue with HPH Unit 2.  We are hoping to have the fix next week, but the contractor has not been scheduled yet.  I will let you know when we are confirmed either way.

We are delayed in getting the parts for repairing HPH.  At this point we are hoping to have it fixed September 1.  Until then, we will continue the reduced releases for 6 hours daily.

We will be generating the 550 cfs pulse at HPH from 5 AM to 11 AM.  This will persist while we are at 1 unit operation.  Evening, weekday pulses will continue.

We were unable to fix Holm Powerhouse this week, and do not expect a fix before Labor Day.  For the rest of the season, please expect:

HPH draft at 550 cfs from 5-11 AM through Labor Day.

Afternoon pulses from 4-11 PM today, Monday and Tuesday (August 27, 30 and 31).

No scheduled afternoon pulses starting September 1.  We could be dispatched for up to 800 cfs at any time, however, so please be prepared for very high flows at any time outside rafting hours.

For September 6-30, we will not be scheduling any generation, due to the drought and statewide water curtailment orders.  During the entire month, we may be dispatched by the state to generate up to 800 cfs at any time.  When in the Tuolumne River, please be careful, and prepare for highly variable flows.
